Mrs. Mary Delois Singleton passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 69 years. She was born on August 16, 1948 in Earle, Arkansas to Willie Mae and Nathaniel Hinton, Sr. Her family moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1956 where she attended Sexton High School.
Mary joined Union Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. She met Howard Singleton at a young age. They fell in love and were married for fifty faithful years and had five children and a step daughter: Michelle, Barbara, Michael, Diane, Samuel and Edward; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a dedicated, devoted and loving wife, grand-mother and great-grandmother. Mary always put the needs of her family before herself. She made all her family and love ones feel like she was their personal best friend. Mary loved spending time with her family including a special bond with her sisters. She enjoyed cooking, shopping and beautifying her home into a warm and loving environment. Mary enjoyed many other hobbies and activities. She was very active and proactive always thinking about others. Mary also instilled in her children the same faith and values she believed in. She and her husband would later attend Mount Hope Church under the pastoral leadership of Dave Williams. Mary contributed to the City of Lansing by serving faithfully as a bus driver for the Lansing School District. Rain sleet or snow, she was always there to make sure that the kids made it to school safe and back home. Mary impacted many of their lives and left a legacy of Hope, Love and Care. She retired after 28 years. It has been expressed that a bus driver is the only job where all your problems are behind you.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 50 years Howard Singleton, 3 sons: Michael, Samuel (Nina), Edward (Sherry), 3 daughters: Michelle and Diane of Lansing; a step-daughter Barbara (David) of Bloomington, Illinois. She also leaves to cherish her memories 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Debbie Black, and Dianne (Henry) Hill of Lansing; 3 brothers: Yola and Eddie Hinton of Lansing; and Nathaniel (Alice) Hinton of Clermont, Florida; Aunt Juanita Hinton of West Memphis, Arkansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; brothers: Ted Lee and Charles “B.B.” Lee; sister; Pearl Millsap.
