Mary Ann Lee (Lansing)

January 5, 1953 — September 18, 2024

Mary Ann Lee transitioned peacefully in her sleep to be with her LORD and Savior on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the tender age of 71 years old. Mary Ann was born on Monday, January 5, 1953, to parents Aaron Scott and Willie Mae Jackson in Greenville, Mississippi.

Mary Ann accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior as a young adult at Bell Grove Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi. When she later relocated to Lansing, Michigan, she became a member of Tithe Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of retired Pastor Ben Wade and remained a member under her current Pastor David Odom, Jr., until the Lord called her home.

Mary Ann attended Greenville Public Schools and graduated from Greenville High School in 1971. After graduation she worked as a customer service representative at a convenience store for many years. She then worked in custodial building maintenance until she retired.

Mary Ann was the “heart” of our family and absolutely loved spending time with and cooking, especially baking, for her family. She met and then married her soulmate, Grant Lee, Jr. in 1991 and remained married until her passing. Mary Ann helped to raise her grandchildren after raising her daughters, which she did wholeheartedly. Family was her life. There was nothing she (and Grant) would not do or provide for her family if they were able to do so. A few of her favorite past times were working on puzzles, solving crossword puzzles, and sitting in her rocking chair looking out the window watching everything and everybody when she could steal away some “her” time whenever possible. Mary Ann was also a “straight-shooter” as the old folks used to say, always speaking her mind—bluntly and honestly—to anyone wanting—or not—her advice and/or opinion about a matter; a part of her personality everyone respected. Her love, caring, and self-sacrificing nature will truly be missed beyond measure.

Mary Ann leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband, Grant Lee Jr.; three daughters, Tashica, Jacquita and Lakeisha Davis; son (adopted great-grandson) Joshua Davis, all of Lansing, Michigan; step-children, Regina Lee of Atlanta, Georgia, Fred Lee, and Laura Hollins, both of Metcalfe, Mississippi; fourteen grandchildren, which includes four of whom she raised in her home, Shaniqua, Tavarrio (aka TJ), Darian and Janaisha Davis; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Georgia Hymes (aka Honey) of Memphis, Tennessee, Erma Sanders, Debra Scott-Warr and Rodney Scott, all of Lansing, Michigan and Aaron Scott, Jr. of Greenville, Mississippi; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; including best friend, Hannah Chillis and special friend, Sophonia McKinley.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron Scott and Willie Mae Jackson; sister, Norma Coleman; stepson, Grant Lee III; and several in-laws.

Mary Ann leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work. She will remain in our hearts forever.
