Matthew C. Ethington, Ii (Lansing)

Mr. Matthew Charles Ethington, II passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023, at his residence in Livonia, Michigan. Age 26 years. He was born August 15, 1996 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Donnielle Lott and Matthew Ethington.

Matthew attended East Lansing Public Schools. He started his football career at East Lansing High School. Matthew graduated from East Lansing High School and was offered a full scholarship to play football at Siena Heights College. He accepted the full scholarship using it to earn his Bachelors of Science in Psychology. During his time at Siena Heights, Matt did lots of community service/internships which lead to him wanting to “Protect and Serve” the community by becoming a police officer. He joined the Detroit Police Department in August 2019. He was great at communicating and making connections with people. Matt loved to be around family especially his baby boy, Matthew III, and friends. Matt was kind-hearted and very respectful of others. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Matt was an avid video game player, when all the work was done.

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, Matthew Charles Ethington, III; mother, Donnielle Williams; father, Matthew Ethington; grandparents, Donna Ethington and Clyde (Liza) Ethington; four sisters, Mickaia Lightfoot, Eliana Ethington, Ava Ethington, and Atallah Williams; brother, Landen Ethington; three aunts, Stephanie Ethington, Lydia Ethington-Burton, and Tierra (Gerald Brown) Lott-Brown; two uncles, Lucas (Toni) Ethington, Sr. and Raphael Seeman (Shannon Stegall); cousins, Lucas Ethington Jr., Cameron Ethington, Dawson Ethington, Carson Ethington, Quincy Burton II, Tyler Burton, Emma Seeman, Kaden Brown, Channing Seeman, Kian Brown, and Gerald Brown II; many great aunts, great uncles, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Peggy Lott and cousin, Bohde Ethington.
