Mattie Lou Hooper "Twink"

March 14, 1948 — September 11, 2020

Mattie Lou “Twink” Hooper, 72, of Saginaw, Michigan, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, September 11, 2020. She was born March 14, 1948 in Trenton, Tennessee to Andrew Louis Coleman and Annie Lou Adams.

Mattie was known for her beautiful smile which is how she got the nickname Twink. She graduated from Rosenwald High School, Class of 1967. She married in 1971 and one child was born to this union. Mattie worked for a casket company in Saginaw, where her responsibilities were sewing the inside lining of the casket.

Mattie moved to Danville, Illinois where she attended Danville Area Community College and she received her Associates Degree in Accounting. She became employed in Administration at Danville Area Community College. In 1992, she married Sammie Hooper and then later moved back to Saginaw, Michigan. Mattie Joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the Church Secretary. She also worked for Sears until her health began to decline.

Mattie enjoyed bowling and she received numerous trophies. She was great at sewing, painting, making jewelry and shopping. She loved to dance and she loved seeing the groups of motorcycles ride. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her friends. Mattie had a love for parrots and owned two during her lifetime.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Coleman and Annie Adams; two brothers, Albert and James Alford; and one sister, Mary Wilson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of more than twenty-eight years, Sammie Hooper; two daughters, Stacie (Nate) Major, Indianapolis, Indiana, Carmenita Hooper, Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Samantha, Zuri, Za’Nya and Zoee; one great-grandson, Savion; sisters, Ruby Alford, Danville, Illinois, Andenette Cole, Georgia; one brother, Robert Alford, Champaign, Illinois; special sister-in-law, Vera (Joe) Parks; many nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
