Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 13, 2013 at the age of 83 years. She was born August 30, 1929 in Montgomery, Alabama to Willie and Jimmy Mae Hooks.
Mattie was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School. She was a former member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Butler and Pastor R. B. Austin where she served on the Nurses Guild until the time of her illness. Mattie had several occupations, some of which were at St. Marys Hospital and Vlasic Pickle Factory where she retired. Mattie was a very humble, caring and generous person. She enjoyed traveling, cooking and spending time with her family. Mattie always greeted everyone with a warm smile. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory five children, Patricia Pierson-Murdock, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Delores Roberson, Denise, Alfreda and Larry Pierson, all of Saginaw, Michigan; two sisters, Artie Washington and Marge McClain, both of Saginaw, Michigan; a special niece, Dorothy Clayton; daughter-in-law, Lula Pierson; son-in-law, Lester Roberson; two god-sons, Cleo Haulcy and Brian Smith; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchild; many other relatives and friends including special friends Sonny and Freddie Hodges.
Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Pierson Sr., one son, Milton Pierson Jr., parents, Willie and Jimmie Mae Hooks, three sisters, Rebecca Harper, Tessie Johnson and Ella Mae Johnson.
