Mckinley Sweeney

Mr. McKinley Sweeney, Jr. was born December 23, 1950 in Montgomery, Alabama to Deacon McKinley Sr. and Sarah Sweeney. The Lord called him home Monday, May 27, 2019. Age 68 years.

McKinley confessed Christ at an early age and later in life became a member of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member who was active in ministry until his health started to decline. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Montgomery, Alabama. He was employed with the General Motors Corporation and retired from there after becoming disabled.

McKinley loved music and basketball, but he was a family man first. He enjoyed the company of his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the joy of his life. He was a loving husband, protective father, doting grandfather, big brother and loyal friend. His presence may be gone but his memory will forever live on.

He leaves precious memories with his wife, Mary O. Sweeney; children, Monica (Nick) Brown, Atlanta, Georgia, Shannon Owens, Lansing, Michigan, Sheerner Sweeney, Saginaw, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Mackenzie, McKinley, Mekhi, Noah, Jazz, Christian, Christina, Cameron, Cayden; brother, Tobe Sweeney, Montgomery, Alabama; sisters, Lilia Orum, Tucker, Georgia, Dorothy (Jerome) House, Saginaw, Michigan; goddaughter, Stacy Nicole Owens, Bowling Green, Kentucky; godsons, Marlon and Dan Rouster, Jr., Atlanta, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Martha Owens, Saginaw, Michigan, Janice (Flint) Berry, Clara Pierson, both of Union Springs, Alabama; brothers-in-law, Ervin and Frank Owens, Union Springs, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends, O’Neal Parish, Warren Jackson, and special brother-in-law, Jerome House.

McKinley was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon McKinley Sr. and Sarah Sweeney; brothers, Joseph Riley and Roosevelt Sweeney; two best friends, Sedell Virgies and Dan Rouster, Sr.
