Melissa Ann Herring was born on September 28th, 1966 in Dillon, South Carolina. Later, her family relocated to Lansing, MI where she grew up with her siblings Steve and Bob Herring, Lisa, and Josh Kern. She later gave birth to three children - Kimberly, Jasmin, and Jacob and had two grandsons, Derek and Isaac, whom she loved deeply.
Always the life of the party, Melissa made holidays special - from St. Patrick’s Day gifts to forcing beloved Deborah into a clown suit to entertain the kids - no holiday will be the same without her. Melissa loved cooking and will be remembered for her tacos and “Spanish rice”. She loved doing her hair and makeup, something that she shared with many of the women in her family.
She was always the “cool” aunt and is remembered by her nieces, nephews, and younger siblings for their inside jokes, secret piercings, long drives, and the crazy stories she told of places she’d been.
Melissa was preceded in death by her parents, Lucius and Minnie Herring. She leaves behind her partner, Deborah Cooper.
No matter where life took Melissa, she always lived life to its fullest. She was fierce, independent, beautiful, and full of life.
