Melvin E. Anderson (Lansing)

November 5, 1939 — February 19, 2021

“God has spoken”, Mr. Melvin Ernest Anderson made his transition from this life into eternity on Friday, February 19, 2021, in Lansing, Michigan, with his wife, Elizabeth by his side along with their son, Jeffrey Evans. Age 81 years. Melvin was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 5, 1939, the third son of five boys to Ethel and Fredricka Anderson.

Melvin’s brothers fondly remember the football field they all helped to create; it was called Half and Half. Every summer they spent time cleaning it off and playing football, always allowing the younger kids to participate. Melvin was an incredible athlete, involved in numerous sports and all his brothers wanted to be just like him. He would later attend River Rogue High School, where he graduated in 1958. Melvin began working at Great Lakes Steel Company, in River Rogue which was known as an industrial city. He sought more opportunities and relocated to Maryland where he pursued his passion for higher education. Melvin loved jazz, enjoyed golfing, and was an avid reader, specifically he loved poetry. His loving wife always affectionately referred to him as “Honey”.

He moved to Lansing, Michigan where he became employed for The Department of Transportation working in the Small Business Liaison’s office, where he retired in 1997. One of Melvin’s joys was his role as mentor to many young men who would go on to become God-fearing Mighty Men of Valor. He was most proud of becoming a deacon at Mt. Zion All Nation Bible Church under the leadership of Pastor H. Levi McClendon III, where he served faithfully until his health prohibited him from attending.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth; son, Jeffrey Evans; brother, Ira (Sandra) Anderson of Detroit, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Charles (Sue) Milner and Tony B. Milner, both of Lansing, Michigan; sister-in-law, Sally Ann Coffman of Lansing, Michigan; nieces, Brandy (Greg) Campbell of Ferndale, Michigan and Krystal (Matt) McLaren of Warren, Michigan; nephew, Ira Anderson, Jr. of River Rogue, Michigan; great-nieces, Sloan and Avery Campbell; great-nephews, Anderson and Davison McLaren; special godson, Dale Person; goddaughter, Brenda Lee; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends, Damian Manson, Joe Smith, Mark Denning, all of Lansing Michigan as well as other locations including Detroit, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Fredricka; brothers, Charles, Ronald, and Henry Anderson.
