Mr. Melvin Calhoun, Jr. Ookie passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Age 42 years. He was born September 19, 1973 in Saginaw, Michigan to Sue Macon and Minister Melvin Calhoun, Sr.
Ookie was known for his sense of humor, always laughing at something, reading his Bible and playing his games. He also enjoyed talking on the phone to his parents and watching movies on Lifetime and USA. Melvin was loved by so many. His presence will surely be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Jade Irish; parents, Sue Macon and Minister Melvin (Everen) Calhoun, Sr., stepfather, Claude Macon; grandmother, Alice Winfrey; six sisters, Priscilla Johnson, Chavonne, Angelica, and Lakeisha Calhoun, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Katrina Davis, Midland, Michigan and Deidra Greer of Arlington, Texas; one stepsister, Chelese Gibson of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; three brothers, Bobby Johnson, Jr., Dennis Johnson and LaVelle Calhoun, all of Saginaw, Michigan; a host of nieces including a special niece, LaTrice Prince; many nephews; six aunts, Lutha Mae Studivent and Marilyn Goodman of Saginaw, Michigan, Dwenda Gwen Goodman of Illinois, Ebony Terrell of Georgia, Effie Lyons of Union Springs, Alabama; one special aunt, Johnnie Mae Burt of Saginaw, Michigan; three uncles, Morris (Diane) Calhoun, James Calhoun, Jr. of Union Springs, Alabama, and John Lee Calhoun of Chicago, Illinois; many cousins including six special cousins, Jawaun, Shanell and LaToya Calhoun, Tamara Tillman, Bernadette and Daniel Presley; many other relatives and friends including special friends J. R. Adkins and Dave Taylor, and significant other, Sherry Richardson.
Melvin was preceded in death by one grandmother, Effie B. Calhoun, two grandfathers, James Calhoun, Sr. and Rev. Johnnie Goodman, and five uncles.
The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Covenant Healthcare, Pastor Robert Davis, Jr. and the Christ Fellowship Baptist Church family, and many citizens of Saginaw for your generosity and support during our time of bereavement.
