Melvin Lee Johnson Sr.

December 6, 1952 — April 2, 2014

Mr. Melvin Lee Johnson Sr. passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Beaumont Health System in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He was born December 6, 1952 in Saginaw, Michigan to Leo Johnson and Mary Lee Green.
Melvin was a 1971 graduate of Saginaw High School. On June 23, 1979 he joined Rhonda McAfee in holy matrimony. She survives him. Melvin gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of Evangel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Superintendent James Smith Jr. where he was appointed Deacon by former Pastor Elton Lawrence. Melvin was employed at Bosal Industries in Detroit, Michigan. He was a loving, caring, funny and hardworking man who enjoyed praying and praising God. Melvin loved his grandchildren and family. He enjoyed reading his bible and TV was his favorite pastime. His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Rhonda Johnson; one daughter, Myrkimshea Johnson (Matt Weiss); one son, Melvin Johnson Jr. (Robin Harding); seven grandchildren, Breyuna, Xavier, Melody, Mariah, Maranda, Carol and Christina; mother, Mary Lee Green; two sisters, Martha Ann Johnson and Marie Diane Hatter; five brothers, Michael A. (Mary) Johnson, Donald Green, Tim Green, Antione Green and Andrew Green; one aunt, Rosie L. Almond; one uncle, Daniel (Annie) Goodwine; three sisters-in-law, Titonia McAfee, Paula McAfee and Imogene Bell; many other relatives and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Leo Johnson, grandparents, Alberta and Mitchell Goodwine, one brother, Marshall Johnson, one aunt, Martha Miller, mother-in-law, Henrystine Douglas, father-in-law, Reverend Willie McAfee Sr., one brother-in-law, Willie McAfee Jr., one sister-in-law, Kimberly Underwood.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Pastor Hurley J. Coleman Jr and the World Outreach Campus family for their love and support. A special thank you to Pastor Superintendent James Smith Jr. and the entire Evangel Church of God in Christ family, the employees of Bosal Industries for all your encouraging words, kindness, support and prayers, Ivan E. Phillips and the staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel.
