Melvin Taylor

April 11, 1953 — March 1, 2010

Mr. Melvin James (Dickie) Taylor departed this life on March 1, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Dickie was born to Elnora Quarles Taylor and the late Johnnie Taylor in Saginaw, MI on April 11, 1953. Dickie graduated from Saginaw High School in 1971 and worked for Delphi before retiring after 33 years of service. He was a member of Zion Valley Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. John Rincher.
Dickie was loved by many due to his humorous nature and friendly demeanor. He loved fishing, playing dominoes with friends and babysitting his grandsons.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Elnora Quarles Taylor; his wife, Eloise Howard; children, Felice (Kevin) Bond and Melvin (LaKimba) Howard of Grand Rapids, MI; his stepchildren: Janice (Lester) Burrell and Alphonso Howard of Panola, AL; grandchildren: Anthony Diggs, Jr., Jalan and Tyler Howard all of Grand Rapids, MI; brothers: Larry (Emma) Taylor of Saginaw, MI and Wendell Taylor of California; sisters: Johnnie Mae (Herman) Richardson of Jackson, MS and Lucille Morris of Highland Park, NJ; aunts: Almonia Burrell, Hazel (George) Turner, Lillie Thomas, Bertha (Aaron) Pruitt and Geneva (Jack) Long; and uncle Oliver (Laura) Quarles. He was predeceased by a special aunt and uncle: Jim and McClure Atkins; grandparents: Oliver and Lillie Quarles, uncles John Henry and John Earl Quarles.
Dickie had many dear friends including Frank Smith, Larry Jackson, Bennie Holmes, Matthew Robinson, Alice Webster, Rev. Charles Townsel, James Chapman and Jessie Parks, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws and friends too numerous to name.
Special thanks to the Davita Dialysis Center Staff and Covenant Hospital 7th Floor ICU staff and the 4th floor nurses unit for their special care during Dickies most difficult times.
