Mertie G Delaney

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earthon this earth a flower blossomed, Mertie Gwendolyn Delaney. God in His infinite wisdom and divine mercy has called from our midst our beloved, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Mertie Gwendolyn Delaney. On Monday, October 18th at St. Marys of Michigan, Gwen heard the great whisper that it was time to rest and made her transition. Age 60 years. Gwen, was born on July 22, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan to Lillie Mae Louis and Robert Jennings.
Gwen was educated in the Bridgeport Public School System, and graduated from Bridgeport High School. She later continued her education by taking classes at Delta College. Gwen enjoyed working at various jobs but her family life was most important to her. Gwen united in covenant by marrying the love of her life Willie Delaney. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Willie Jr. and Carl, both of whom she loved greatly. You could always hear her proudly talking about her boys. She took great pleasure in taking care of all her guys and loved being a housewife.
Gwen enjoyed dancing, cooking, and going for long walks. She was ever so sincere in her will to remain a giver, showing kindness, generosity and affection, which family and friends appreciated. Gwen was a true Missionary, giving back to others. She always looked forward to helping her sister give food and clothes away during the holidays . She loved talking with people, she never met a stranger. At an early age she was baptized and gave her life to Christ. Just learning more about God would ignite such a fire in her that she could never contain it. You would often hear her say how good God is and why she loved Him so. Even though her health was challenging, she would attend St. Luke C.M.E Church.
Gwen continues to live through those she left behind. Her devoted sons, Willie (Jessica) Delaney and Carl (Jessica) Delaney; six precious grandchildren, Damarkis Delaney, Gregory Williams, Armonte Franklin, Jayla Jackson, Karlaya Delaney, and Makenzie Delaney; five loving siblings, Mildred Dee Dee Braddock, Anita Louis, Dennis (Celia) Poindexter, David (Peggy) Louis and Frederick Temple; one aunt, Juanita Hankins; two uncles Eddie Jernigan and Ronald Walker; two sisters-in-law, Martha (Mark) Hudson and Eva Poindexter; one brother-in-law, Gregory (Dial) Delaney; a special niece, Yvette Tamlin; a special cousin, Nora Luplow; two special friends, Pat Page and Janet Washington; many other relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Delaney; parents, Lillie Mae Louis and Robert Jennings; grandparents, Richard (Mertie) Poindexter; brothers, Bruce Poindexter and Darrell Jennings.
