Michael Shaw, Sr.

Mr. Michael “Mike” Shaw Sr., 56, went from earthly life to eternal rest on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mike was born February 9, 1966, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Gloria Jean Shaw and the late James Shaw, Sr.

Michael was raised in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended Marshall High School and graduated in 1984. He relocated to Saginaw, Michigan, and later to Grand Rapids, Michigan. While there, Mike decided to further his education, attending Grand Rapids Community College and studying business. His favorite subject was Math.

Mike was like the energizer bunny, never stopped, and always worked on a task until it was completed. He was a handyman and he loved to work. He could fix anything, and was a true “jack of all trades.” Mike worked in construction, sales, manufacturing, and he had a passion for working on cars. Mike always put God first. He was a family man, a devoted father, and a caring brother, like no other. Mike knew how to make friends, and everyone loved him; he was one of a kind. He showed his love with action. Mike was always willing to lend a helping hand with no hesitation, always there for everyone. He had a big heart and a big smile to match. Mike loved to laugh and crack jokes. His laugh was incredibly unique, one that no one could mock. Michael, our father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, was sincerely appreciated and was a joy in all our lives. He will truly be missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his love and best friend, Shantel Arrington; four daughters, Dominique Shaw, Delisa Shaw, Vesha Shaw, and Keziah Arrington; one son, Michael Shaw Jr; two stepchildren, Sha-Andra Arrington and Anthony Arrington; grandchildren, Markius Woods Jr, Princeton James Boyd, Michael Shaw III, Tay’ohna Shaw, Charvion Tullos Jr., Lauren Hudson, Landon Hudson, and London Hudson; his loving mother, Gloria Jean Shaw; one dear sister, Gloria Shaw; one niece, Amariye Shaw; one nephew, Patrick Sutton; supportive brother-in-law, Robert Arrington Jr.; special cousin, Damonn Payton; special friends, Richard Davis, Reginald Williams, and Alice Arrington; many, many, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Shaw Sr; sister, Yolanda Shaw; brother, James Shaw Jr; Nephew, Andrik Shaw; maternal grandparents, Willie Sr., and Eliza Whitley; paternal grandparents, Wadsworth, and Johnnie Ella Shaw.
