Mr. Michael Duane Thomas departed his earthly home on Sunday morning, October 5, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center with his daughter and nieces by his side.He was born January 21, 1969 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Irene and Robert Thomas Sr. Michael received Christ at a very early age as a child at St. Andrews A.M.E. Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and as a teenager in Saginaw, Michigan. He knew and loved the Lord. Michael attended Saginaw Public Schools and after high school he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. He served faithfully from 1987-1990 and received an honorable discharge. Michael loved time spent with family and friends; especially, his best friend, his Pops. He loved football, basketball and baseball. Michael also loved dabbling in electronics. As a child he would tear down electronic items, just so he could rebuild them. He loved computers. His medical condition often kept him from the things he loved, such as attending college and attending church regularly. Michael had a desire to attend college, very much, but was never able to attend. When talking to others about church, he would often say, "I wish I was able to go to church." He was often in prayer and prayed for his family to be strong. His love for his family was so strong, that he often worried about them more than he did for himself. He was a sweetheart and loved his family deeply. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving parents Robert, Sr. and Irene Thomas; one daughter, Mikeisha Thomas and one grandson, Kar'Mel Jackson; two stepsons, Tourean Vann and Tevion Vann; his siblings who loved him and looked up to their big brother: Kevin LaRon Thomas, who was his caregiver and proud to do so; sisters, Sonya DeVon Thomas, Katrina (B.A.) Madison, Fay ((Dimas) Dominguez and Krissy Allen; special cousin, Stacey Crosby; aunts, Millie Martin, Lorene Martin and Mae Williams all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Julianna Williford of Saginaw, Michigan, Connie Thomas of Chicago, Illinois, Dorothy Sanders of Flint, Michigan, Lois Stouvall of Saginaw, Michigan, Ethel Davis of Little Rock, Arkansas and Nola Jamerson of Saginaw, Michigan; uncles, Ronnie. Martin of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Jonathan (LeDoris) Martin and Johnny (Felicia) Martin both of Saginaw, Michigan; great-aunts, Annie Martin Jordan and Algirthe Thomas both of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; many other relatives and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Lee Thomas, Jr. and Leroy (Kunta) Allen; grandparents, Mose and Irene Martin, Amos and Maybelle Thomas and Louise Abbott; aunt, Emma Crosby; uncles, Mose Martin, Jr., Elijah Martin, Ceabon Martin and Amos Thomas, Jr. Thank you to Covenant Cooper CCU staff and special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Minoo Khetarpal, for being more than a doctor. She was a friend of the family and always looked out for them. She referred to Michael as "her baby." The family loves her dearly as a doctor and a friend. In Michael's own words: "Family is the essence that helps define our very identity": devotion, sharing, love, laughter, caring, crying, warmth, belonging, smiles and memories. "Family means believing, loving and supporting each other."
