Mildred Mcelroy

June 18, 1953 — December 27, 2018

Mrs. Mildred McElroy was born June 18, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan to Laura Harris and Milton Johnson. She passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018. Age 65 years.

Mildred was a student of Saginaw Public Schools and graduated from Saginaw High School, “Class of 1972.” She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bridgeport until her illness. A self-taught seamstress, she worked at Suburban Cleaners of Saginaw, Michigan for years. She met, fell in love and married Hurley McElroy on December 15, 1984. The two were married until his passing.

After many years of being an employee, Mildred decided to become a boss. She started her own business from doing alterations and home décor to making one-of-a-kind lavish prom dresses. When Mildred wasn’t running her business, she enjoyed going to the casino and cooking “big holiday meals”, which we will truly miss. Though she loved fashion, crocheting and decorating, her true passion was her children and especially her grandchildren. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Hurley McElroy; parents, Laura Harris and Milton Johnson; sisters, Dorothy Whitley, Marcia Clark; mother-in-law, Inell Parker; brother-in-law, Vandy Lane Jr.; best friends, Cathy Brown, Evelyn Terrell.
