Mitchell Lee Jones

April 12, 1945 — February 19, 2023

On Sunday, February 19, 2023, God’s angels descended from Heaven to carry Mitchell Lee Jones to his eternal home. His earthly journey in life began on April 12, 1945; he was born to the late Walter Mack and Essie Mae Jones in Newton County, Mississippi.

Mitchell was a graduate of North Gulfport High School. He moved from Gulfport, Mississippi in 1968 for a job at General Motors in Saginaw, Michigan, where he met the love of his life Edna Jean Foote. Mitchell and Edna were married on July 29, 1977, at Truevine Baptist Church where they served many years under the leadership of the late Pastor R. B. Corley Sr. who was succeeded by Pastor Paul E. Broaddus.

Mr. Jones loved fishing in his big boat, riding his Harley Davidson, and beating the brakes out of folk playing dominos. He taught all the kids how to play, and even his mother-in-law. Mitchell loved to play cards, drive his nice shiny cars, and cook for his family.

Mitchell’s legacy will be celebrated by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Edna Jean Jones; two loving daughters, Shaleana McKinney, and Mary Moten, both of Saginaw, Michigan; one son, Kerry Griffith, Gulfport, Mississippi; ten grandchildren, DeVariol D. Chisolm, Derrick L. McKinney Jr., Mitchell Taylor, Darnell A. McKinney, D’Airricka M. McKinney, Bryon Baynes, Byron Baynes, Jasmine Griffith, Rudolph B. Moten Jr., and James A. Moten; seventeen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Angie Stewart, Gulfport, Mississippi, Frankie Williams, Tampa, Florida, and Eunice (Frank) Earle, Spartanburg, South Carolina; one brother, Walter (Cora), Jones, Gulfport, Mississippi; one goddaughter, Nikia (Toy) Williams, Saginaw, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Vera King, and Joyce Jones, Saginaw, Michigan; brothers-in-law, John D. King, Hubert Wayne (Trena) King, and Julius Johnson, Saginaw, Michigan; many special nieces, and nephews, Tracey (Rev.
