Deacon Moses Harris, Jr. made his transition to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 20, 2020 in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 77. He was born July 29, 1942 to Moses, Sr. and Nathaniel Harris in New Madrid, Missouri. He was the eldest of 3 children born to this union.
Moses family relocated from Muskegon, Michigan to Lansing, Michigan when he was 8 years of age. He attended Lansing School District, graduating for J. W. Sexton High School. He also attended one semester of community college, before marrying the love of his life, Marva Thompson on November 29, 1968. Moses accepted the Lord as his personal Savior and joined the New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ where he served faithfully for many years. Under the leadership of Pastor Elder Charles Bicy he was appointed as Deacon. Moses and his wife, Marva would later unite with New St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Supt. Del Gregory, now currently pastored by Elder Ronald C. Joplin, where he also continued to faithfully serve as much as his health would allow. In 1980, Moses began a career through the State of Michigan. After 22 years of service and multiple promotions, he retired from the department of Secretary of State.
Moses loved to bowl and was quite good at it. He considered himself to be a champion bowler. One of his favorite pastimes was watching old western cowboy television shows. He also liked to play ping-pong. One of Moses favorite things to say was “In all things get an understanding”, and his favorite scripture was Matthew 6:9-13; The Lord’s Prayer.
He leaves to cherish his memory his 2 sons, Moses Demetrius and Joseph Arvu; 3 grandchildren, Arvu Harris, Abbey Harris, Aynnd Rankin; 1 great grandchild; 1 sister, Kay; 1 step-sister, Kira, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 blessed years, Marva; parents; 1 sister, Annabelle.
