Our beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Moses Leroy Mitchell departed this life on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the University of Michigan Hospital. Moses was born October 23, 1962 in Helena, Arkansas to Alex Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell Evans. Moses was only 2 years old when he moved to Saginaw, MI with his parents and three brothers in 1964. He and his three brothers later became big brothers to two younger sisters.
Moses attended Saginaw public schools, including Saginaw High School. He was always a believer in God, but officially became a Christian in 2013 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church, where Rev. Eddie Jackson is Pastor. Moses was a mechanic for many throughout the city, state, and out of state. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, traveling, taking a chance to win, movies, music, dancing, and helping others. Moses was an awesome man of strength, courage, faith, love, and joy. His presence will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Moses leaves to cherish his memory 14 children, Nekeidra Davis, James Thompson, Talisa Houston of Dallas, TX, Latanya and Latoya Mitchell, Rita Mitchell and Latrisha (Maurice Sr.) Gilmer, Elizabeth Mitchell of Milwaukee, WI, Andre Mitchell of Elkhart, IN and Shakelia Mitchell, Toriyon, Moses Jr., Jamise, and Jamace Mitchell; 35 grandchildren; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Alex Mitchell (Pat) of Indianapolis, IN, Jimmie Mitchell, Diane Mitchell Simon (Darrell Sr.), and LaToya Beeman Edwards (Maurice Sr.) of Kansas City, KS; 34 nieces and nephews; goddaughter, Monique Simon; close cousin Robert Goldsberry (Christine); a father figure and family friend since the age of 5, Vollie Beeman; many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Moses was preceded in death by his father Alex Mitchell, brother Freddie L. Mitchell, grandparents Alex Mitchell Sr. and Lucille Mitchell, George Harmon Sr. and Nannie Hughes Harmon, and a close cousin Christine Salinas. The family wishes to express great appreciation and special thanks to those loved ones who spent many nights in the hospital with him. The family also wish to express great appreciation and special thanks to the U of M nurses, doctors, physical therapists, and all staff on 7W, for the love, care, generosity, long walks, music, dances (for his entertainment), encouragement, and milkshakes. He cared for, appreciated, and respected you all.
