Mother Ernestine Scott Sweeney, beloved mother of Reverend Tyrone Sweeney, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt transitioned from life on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Age 89 years. Mother Sweeney was born November 10, 1926 to the late John Walter and Charlesetta Scott in Alden Bridge, Louisiana.
Mother Sweeney was married to the love of her life, Reverend Leroy Sweeney, Sr. for 50 years. She worked as an adult education teacher in Bossier City, Louisiana and later for the Caddo Parish Public Schools as cafeteria manager, retiring after 50 years of service. She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed singing and Sunday school, loved her family and church and wouldnt let her physical challenges damper her faith in God or ministry. She was affectionately called Mother Sweeney, Sister Sweeney and Aunt Stene by people of all ages.
She leaves to celebrate her life one son, Reverend Tyrone (Delisa) Sweeney; two sisters, Alice Smith and Bernice Stuckey; three sisters-in-law, Ernestine Sweeney, Loretta Sweeney and Minnieola Banks-Jaggers; five grandchildren, Anthony Cureton, Darryl Sweeney, Torri Sweeney-Allen, Andrae J. (Kendra) Sweeney and Kameka Sweeney; ten great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Mother Sweeney was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Leroy Sweeney, Sr., parents, John and Charlesetta Scott, two sons, Arthur Ray and Leroy Sweeney, Jr. and one sister, Juanita Hardy.
