Mother Josephine Neal went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the age of 88 years. She was born January 28, 1928 in Henning, Tennessee to William Lake and Betty Parker Lake.
Mother Neal was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Casey. Mother Neal loved her church family and loved giving out hugs every Sunday, which everyone looked forward to receiving. They would say, Mother gives the best hugs ever! Mother Neal will be missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.
Mother Neal leaves to cherish her memory nine daughters, Gloria Jelks, Linda (Preston) Johnson, Junell (Stanley) Howell, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Shirley (Kenneth) Jones of Cleveland, Ohio, Anita (Cornell) Scott of Lansing, Michigan, Joella Liscomb, Bertha (A.C.) Haymon, Maserlona (Jimmy) Owens, Janie (Willie) Parker, two sons, Larry Owens, Ivory (Betty) Owens, all of Chicago, Illinois; one step-daughter, Blanche Williams; many grandchildren including LaKeisha Greer whom she raised, great-grandchildren including KeAsia and PastAsia Stitt whom she also raised; many great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Janie Ferguson of Saginaw, Michigan; one brother, David Lake of Chicago, Illinois; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends including a daughter-in-law, Celestine Lake.
She was preceded in death by two sons, William Lake and James Owens, one daughter, Betty Greer, parents, William and Betty Lake, step-mother, Mattie Lake, who raised her, two brothers, Artie and Alvin Lake, two sisters, Louise Williams and Pearlie Mae Adams.
