Mother Josie Mae Lee

August 31, 1926 — June 6, 2019

Mother Josie Mae Lee was born August 31, 1926 in Winonia, Mississippi to George and Mary Mitchell. She returned home to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the blessed age of 92 years.

Mother Josie attended several schools in Mississippi through the ninth grade but continued her education with God. She worked many years as a domestic worker and at the Franklin Hotel until her health declined.

Mother Josie loved God and her church family. She faithfully served at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Willie D. Hankins, Pastor Robert Harris and current Pastor Chevez Marshall. She was on the Mother’s Board and proudly served in this position until her health failed.

Mother Josie loved singing at various church functions, watching Christian television and reading her bible. She also enjoyed the daily news, soap operas and the Judge Judy show. Nothing brought her more joy than her family, whom she loved dearly. She possessed a mother’s wit and had a love for people that was unmatched. She was the epitome of what the Bible calls a cheerful giver, as she was very generous and loved to give.

Proverbs 31 details the characteristics of a virtuous woman and Mother Josie truly fits this description. Many have done well, but you, Mother Josie, excel them all.

She leaves to celebrate her life six children, Ernest (Dawn) Lee, Frances Haulcy, Osker (Tinincia) Lee, Alvin W. Lee, Sr., Rose Mary (Ezekiel) Little, all of Saginaw, Michigan, Minister Debroah Lee-Tyiska, Macedonia, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Gloria Lee; twenty grandchildren, Melvin Lee, Marvin Lee, Lynette Amos, Michael Riley, Mechell (Shawn) Graham, Tarik (Kealyonne) Jones, Jameelah Washington, Passion Fields, Jawon Lee, Tauren Jones, Tamaris Jones, Eric Lee, Josie Cary, Rickey Cary, Shalisa Cary, Chanell McNeal, Jerome Cooper, Anthony Lee, Troy D.
