Mother Mattie Lee Davis

July 5, 1929 — December 3, 2015

On Thursday, December 3, 2015 the angels of Heaven descended upon the earth to carry Mother Mattie Lee Davis home to Glory. Age 86 years. She was born July 5, 1929 in Sunflower, Mississippi to Mary and George Mitchell.
Mattie was a prayer warrior who faithfully served on the Mothers' Board and sang in the choir at New Christ Community Church under leadership of Pastor Dr. Eugene Seals. Mother Davis also sang duets at many of the churches in the area with her sister, Josie Lee. Throughout her lifetime, Mattie held several positions at various companies. She worked at a nursing home, as a daycare aide and home health provider, and was a manager for Halls Restaurant. Mattie enjoyed missionary work, drawing, reading the Bible and doing word search puzzles. She loved to cook and feed everyone. One of her specialties was peanut brittle candy. Mattie loved her family and she never met a stranger. Her wonderful presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Maryon (Douglas) Brown of Norfolk, Nebraska, Ethel (Charles) Johnson and Dortha (James) Hearn both of Saginaw, Michigan; two sons, Eddie (Patricia) Davis of Atlanta, Georgia and John Davis of Saginaw, Michigan; Mattie had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, three of whom had the pleasure of working as her home care aide, Miesha Davis, Kiara Brown and Cyterria Hearn; two grandsons, Ricky Demonte Davis and Diontae Vontrail Davis who cannot be here due to circumstances beyond their control; one sister, Josie Mae Mitchell-Lee; many nieces and nephews including her special nieces, Minnie Chamberlin, Frances Haucey and Martha Russell; two nephews, Robert and Casey Mitchell; one sister-in-law, Mary Wales of Chicago, Illinois; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Rose Stewart and Dave.
