Mrs. Johnnie Bea Dawkins departed this earthly life on June 4, 2024, at the age of 88 years. Johnnie was born in Starkville, Mississippi, and moved to Saginaw, Michigan with her family as a youth. She married and was a loving wife to her high school sweetheart, Bradley Dawkins, Jr., who predeceased her in death in 1987.
Johnnie was a remarkable mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. A generous loving heart to all she knew and loved. She was full of joy and laughter and always had a smile for you.
Johnnie graduated from Saginaw High School, Class of 1954, and later obtained her LPN license and worked as a nurse for many years at Saginaw General Hospital.
Johnnie was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church from her youth, and later in life joined TrueVine Baptist Church. She loved to study her Bible and regularly attended Sunday School and the church service until her health began to decline.
Johnnie also enjoyed bowling and bowled in two leagues every week for many, many years. She loved working in her yard, doing crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite game shows every day. Her most favorite things to do was to eat peppermint candy…all …day long, and spend time with her grands, and great-grands; she was their “Nana.”
She leaves to cherish loving memories one daughter, Sabrina Dawkins-Blakes, Saginaw, Michigan; two sons, Randel Dawkins, Saginaw, Michigan, and Ronald Dawkins; three grandchildren, Nikesha (Antione) Thompson, Las Vegas, Nevada, Briana Williams (Jonathan), Saginaw, Michigan, and Mylick Dallas, Atlanta, Georgia; eight great-grandchildren, Anthoney, Suraiya, Khennadei, Asaunni, Gabrianna, Aaliynah, Gianna, and Caliyah; one sister, Castella LeCompte, Wilmington, Delaware; one very special nephew, Michael (Tawanna) Morgan; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Lupe Esquibel, Viola Torrence, Mary Addison, Diane Bond, Geraldine Peterson, and more.
Mrs. Dawkins was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bradley Dawkins, Jr.; son, Ruben Dawkins, parents, John Bell, Sallie Mae Caver, stepfather, Ruben Caver; mother-in-law, Eva Evans; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas (Rosemary) Bell; sons-in-law, Clifford Williams and Charles Blakes, Jr.
