Mrs. Josephine Pearson

June 8, 1930 — January 13, 2024

“Jehovah Increases” is the meaning of the name Josephine in the Hebrew language. Josephine Pearson was a living example of God’s grace and love and through her work in the church and the community she helped to bring others to Christ. She lived out her faith until the day she died, January 13, 2024 in Atlanta, GA.

Josephine Pearson was born June 8, 1930, to Samuel Elvin Walker and Maggie Mae Turner of Waverly, Humphrey County Tennessee. At an early age, she professed a hope in Jesus Christ and joined the Salters Chapel A.M.E. Church, where the foundation of her faith was established.

On March 9, 1946, Josephine married her husband of 63 years, Ivan O. Pearson, Sr. Of Huntingdon, Tennessee. To that union was born in Tennessee, three sons, Ivan Onus Pearson, Jr, Robert Wayne Pearson, and Clarence Elvin Pearson.

In 1953 the family moved from Waverly to Saginaw Michigan, where Josephine committed to growing their loving home and family by adding son, John Edward, and daughter Linda Patrice.

While her husband worked in the auto industry, Josephine worked as a Nursing Assistant at Saginaw General Hospital in the Nursery and Neonatal Unit, from which she retired.

The Pearson home was always open to friends and family to receive a warm hello, comforting smile, and something tasty to eat. All who knew her loved her for her caring heart and giving spirit.

Josephine was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Turner, mother Maggie Mae Goodrich, stepfather, Henry Goodrich, husband Ivan O. Pearson, Sr., sons Ivan O Pearson, Jr., Robert Wayne Pearson, Clarence Elvin Pearson, and daughter Linda Patrice Pearson.

Left to cherish and celebrate her memory are son, Joh E. Pearson, Sr. (Monica) of Atlanta, GA; Daughters-in-law Phyllis Pearson of Jackson, MI; Cynthia Pearson of Shreveport, LA; two sisters-in-law Brooxie L. Fentress (Thomas); Jean Wallick; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
