"A Life Well Lived
Marie Dawkins, age 71, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing, Michigan. She was born March 31, 1944 in Louisville, Mississippi to Solomon and Sharnee Cole McReynolds.
She grew up with the love of her life, Haley Dawkins, and at the tender age of 17, they were married, and she relocated with him to Saginaw, Michigan. Marie worked for the Holiday Inn Corporation for several years until her retirement in the mid 1980s. She was a member of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Roy L. Manning, and was very active on the Corinthian Kitchen Committee. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all. Marie loved to fish, cook, play cards, and garden. She was an avid basketball fan and loved to attend basketball games. Marie was known for her phenomenal cooking and could whip up a meal in the blink of an eye. She was affectionately known to most as Granny and her favorite saying was Peach Pie.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 53 years, Haley Dawkins; three sons, Vincent (Renee) of Atlanta, GA., Timothy (Sonya) of Lansing, MI, and Lou (Latricia) of DeKalb, IL; seven grandchildren, Marcus, Jacinda, Mario, Christian, Jordon, Janae, Hailee; three great-grandchildren, Tamia, Lamar, Adrian; five sisters, Freddie Roby, Emma Gamblin, Dorothy (Otha) Barnes, Claranett (L.B.) Hathorn, Mary Joyce (Charles) Andrews; four brothers, Solomon (Evia) McReynolds, Columbus (Pearlene) McReynolds, Albert (Kathy) McReynolds, Keith (Carolyn) McReynolds and Allen (Rita) McReynolds; Sisters-in-law, Ollie (Willie) Dawkins, Dorothy (William Bob) Dawkins, Verlean (Edgar Lee) Dawkins, Callie (John) Lampley; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Solomon McReynolds and Sharnee Cole McReynolds; one sister, Vernell McReynolds-Smith; two brothers, Roosevelt McReynolds and Rufus McReynolds; one grandchild, Dorian Styles Dawkins; her mother and fatherin-law, Rosanna Gentry Dawkins and William Dawkins; one sister-in-law, Dorothy (Johnny) Dawkins; four brothers-in-law, Willie Dawkins, Johnny Dawkins, Edgar Lee Sam Dawkins, William Bob Dawkins, Junior Dawkins, John Lampley; four nephews, Lee Roby, Jimmie Lampley, Dexter Lampley and Larry Dawkins.
