Mrs. Mattie Mae Johnson

August 16, 1930 — April 6, 2021

Mrs. Mattie Mae Johnson passed away on April 6, 2021 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan. Age 90 years. She was born on August 16, 1930 in Helena, Arkansas to Lawrence and Mildred Halmon.

Mrs. Johnson was a resident of Saginaw, Michigan. She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church under leadership of the late Reverend R. B. Austin, and current Pastor, Blake D. Strozier. She attended Eliza Miller School in Helena Arkansas. Mrs. Johnson was employed by, and retired from, Saginaw Community Hospital, now known as Health Source. Her hobbies included needlepoint, knitting, and reading her Bible. Mrs. Johnson’s favorite scripture was Psalm 23.

She leaves to cherish loving memories three daughters, Mary (Michael) Johnson, Drueada Wiggins, and Connie Harvey; one son, John (LoWanna) Johnson; stepdaughter, Heneretta Watson; 22 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Alberta Hoard; brother, Durwood Woods; sisters-in-law, Doris Billingsley, Catherine O’Neal, Juanita Halmon, and Erma Johnson; brother-in-law, Walter Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including her best friend, Loudean Moultrie.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, John Johnson, two daughters, Kishna Johnson, Mildred Wilburn, parents, Lawrence and Mildred Halmon, brothers, L.D. Halmon, Eddie Halmon and sister, Essma Campbell, stepsisters, Debbie Halmon, Frances Halmon, and many in-laws too numerous to list.

The family would like to express special thanks to those dear to her heart, Pastor Hurley Jr. (First Lady Sandra) Coleman, World Outreach Campus, special friends, Annie Jackson, Beulah Almond, Dorothy Bowman, Lucy McClain Shirley Weathers, and Doris Battle. A very special thank-you to Pastor Blake D. (First Lady Ashley) Strozier and the Tabernacle Baptist Church family.
