Mrs. Odie Mae (Phillips) Pierce departed this life on Friday, October 20, 2023, in DeLand, Florida, with her daughter at her side. Age 81 years. She was born March 14, 1942, in Roseland, Louisiana, to Otis Phillips and Rosemary Thompson.
Odie graduated from Westside High School in Amite, Louisiana. After a short time, she departed for Saginaw, Michigan, where she remained until the passing of her husband, nearly 60 years later. Mrs. Pierce was married to Mr. Ivan C. Pierce, Jr., forty-five years before his passing in 2014.
Mrs. Pierce was a career-certified nursing assistant and a member of the Prince of Peace Baptist Church for many years, serving as an usher and a member of the Missionary Society. During her spare time, she knitted blankets and other craftwork that relatives and friends continue to use and cherish. Mrs. Pierce mentored many young women and was a trusted anchor for family and friends even after her move to DeLand, Florida.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Esther (Raymond) Satchell of DeLand, Florida; two sons, Ivan C. Pierce, III, of Arlington, Virginia; Roger (Deirdre) Pierce of Etiwanda, California; seven grandchildren, Maranatha Satchell of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Regina (Johnny) Kelly of Lenoir, North Carolina, Samuel (April) Satchell of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Michael (Rheana) Pierce of Arlington, Virginia, Marsalis A. Pierce and Starla I. Pierce of Etiwanda, California, and Stanley (Ariane) Phillips of Hahnville, Louisiana; five great-grandchildren, Tayla Phillips of Marrero, Louisiana, Jaiden Phillips of Harvey, Louisiana, Jadan Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Taia Phillips of Hahnville, Louisiana, and Riley Pierce of Arlington, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; one brother-in-law, Marvin Pierce of Burton, Michigan; godchildren, Roger Parker, Jadyn Parker, Tamia Taylor, Travis Taylor, Leonard Jones Jr., Quincy Jones, Ursula L. Jones-Brimidge, Quinterria Jones, Michael Rincher, Jarvis Rincher, Rosalyn Williams-Griffin, James Howard, and Percy McGee; many other relatives and friends including Mrs. Josephine Pearson of Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Shirley Rincher of Saginaw, Michigan, Tamala (Smith) Ben Taylor and their children, Tomeka Smith and Ruthie Jackson of Saginaw, Michigan.
Mrs. Pierce was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan C. Pierce Jr; sons, Stanley Phillips and Anthony Jason Pierce; mother and father-in-law, Pastor Kelly (Willie Mae) Merkerson; Reverend Leonard (Beatrice) Jones; Jessie Cooper; grandparents, Robert (Luberta) Spikes; two sisters, Marguerite James and Dorothy Taylor; one brother, Jessie C. James; two aunts, Catherine McGee, and Shelly Spikes; five uncles, James, Haywood, Elbert, Leroy, and Ed Spikes; sisters-in-law, Mary Jacobs and Deborah Pierce; brother-in-law, Theodore Braddock; and many more relatives and friends.
