Mrs. Velma Johnson

Mrs. Velma L. Johnson passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Age 86 years. She was born June 22, 1929 in Belton, Texas, the daughter of Frederick Lee Brown and Willie Mae Brown.
Velma resided in Saginaw, Michigan and she attended St. Josephs Catholic Church. She retired from Macys after 20 years of service. She enjoyed going to the casino, watching westerns and anything on Lifetime, as well as gardening. Her interests were reading her Bible and making investments. She was a well-known real estate investor with a passion for home rehabilitation for over 40 years. She was a hard worker, very outgoing, opinionated, a woman of great integrity, with a great spirit. She gave words of wisdom to all who knew her. She loved her family dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Elaine Welch, Saginaw, Michigan, Vickie V. Minor, Austin, Texas, and Gwendolyn (Quintin) Ware, Detroit, Michigan; six granddaughters, Sabrina (Hugh) Godfrey of New York, New York, Tamara Johnson of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Rkyshia (Jerry) Gascey of Cypress, Texas, Natalie Emerson of Detroit, Michigan, Ericka Seevers and Kentria Seevers, both of Saginaw, Michigan; six grandsons, Earl Jr. (Tonya) Welch of Toledo, Ohio, Shafer (Katherine) Johnson, Hyman Johnson both of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Taron Youngblood of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dempsey Emerson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Kent Johnson Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama; twenty-six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, three nieces, Cynthia Taylor, Saginaw, Michigan, Electa Churchill, Buffalo, New York, and Janice Renee Brown, Saginaw, Michigan; two nephews, Marcus Huff and Mike Burks, both of Saginaw, Michigan; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; one brother-in-law, Alexander Burks of Saginaw, Michigan; many other relatives and friends including special friends, the staff of Saginaw Senior Care, Dr. Mirza Hussain and staff, Lakeshore Grill staff at Macys, Bennie Williams, and Margo Hampton.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Johnson, father, Frederick L. Brown, mother, Willie Mae Brown, sister, Zuleika Slappy Williams, sister, Emily Burks, brother, Howard Brown, and son, Kent E. Johnson.
