On Monday, February 16, 2015 the angels transcended from Heaven to carry Mrs. Willie Lee Turner home to Glory. Age 91 years. She was born July 21, 1923 in Panola, Alabama to Cleveland and Anna Bessie Hibbler Johnson.
Willie Lee married Jimmie Lee Turner on May 12, 1941 in Panola, Alabama. He survives her. After relocating to Saginaw, Michigan she became a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor R.B. Austin. Thirty-three years later, Willie Lee traveled back to Panola, Alabama where she united with Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, canning and gardening. She loved spending time with her family. Willie Lee especially loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren who affectionately called her Big Ma. Her wonderful presence will be truly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jimmie Lee Turner; her children, Cleodis (Johnnie) Blair, Mary McGowan, Jimmie Lee Turner Jr., Odessa (Don) Steward, Donald (Sandra) Turner and Larry Turner; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; one special niece, Laura Quarles; many other nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Leodis Washington; many other relatives and friends.
Willie Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Cleveland and Bessie Johnson, two sisters, Garnie Wade and Rozzette Washington, two brothers, John Robert Johnson and Joe Cameron, two sons, Theodis and Nathaniel, one grand-son, Damien Steward, one grand-daughter, Chante Little, a daughter-in-law, Willie Kate Turner, and a son-in-law, Gus McGowan.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to everyone who offered kind words and condolences.
