Ms. Elvereen Carlet Clarke, affectionately known as Carlet, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Age 79 years. She was born October 4, in Georgetown, Guyana, to Stella Clarke and Carl Fraser.
Carlet received her formal education in Georgetown, Guyana before immigrating to the United States in 1988 with two of her four daughters. She sacrificed so much so that her children would have a better life. Carlet’s dream of becoming a nurse was not realized; however, she continued to do everything possible to assist others in the area of healthcare. She attended Calvary United Methodist Church where she was very involved in the ministries of the church. After arriving in Saginaw, Michigan, she was employed as a House Executive and also worked in the garment and food industries, retiring after working over 25 years. After retiring, Carlet enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to make Guyanese Roti, Pepperpot, and Salt Fish and Bakes. Carlet loved gardening, journaling, dancing, listening to music, reading her Bible, and also listening to Family Life Radio. Carlet was not published, but one of her favorite pastimes was writing. She wrote poetry, and life reflections which included how to live life with appreciation for others. One of the first lines in Carlet’s writings is quoted as “I love helping others!” Carlet was very stylish, and elegant, and was a lover of art and photography. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family, doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She demonstrated how to love and honor extended family and friends. Carlet will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish loving memories four daughters, Chriseta Eastman, Urlene Eastman, Marcia (Michael) Yearwood, and Amanda Eastman; ten grandchildren, Sherwyn, Dacia, Shaneice, Shonette, Jamal, Jada, Shanika, Jabari, Isaiah, and Anaya; great-grandchildren, Akemah, Benjamin, Jahmir, Jahmiya, Jahlani, Quigyn, and Maia; brothers, Michael Trotman, Carl and Trevor Fraser; many nieces, nephews and cousins; Carlet also leaves many friends including a very special friend, Marilyn Kitt, who was always there when needed.
Carlet was preceded in death by her parents, Stella Clarke and Carl Fraser; her grandparents; one sister, Leila Clarke; one brother, Clairmont Fraser; great-grandchild, Shyia; and one niece, Arlene Clarke.
