Myrtle Lee Allen (Lansing)

February 25, 1947 — May 16, 2023

Our Dear Mother, Myrtle Allen went from labor to reward on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at McLaren Great Lansing, in Lansing Michigan at the age of 76 years old. She was born February 25, 1947, the daughter of George and Azzilee Powell.

Myrtle was raised in Belzoni, Mississippi and later moved to Lansing Michigan with her best friend and husband of 26 years, James Allen Sr. She was a woman of God, a mother, and a homemaker. Myrtle attended Bethlehem Temple Church for well over 50 years and went to Sunday School and church services every chance she could. She was a fashionista with an eye-catching sense of style. Anyone who knew Myrtle knew she was dressed in her Sunday best every day whether she was going to church, a family member's house, or to the grocery store, and you best believe she had a hat to match.

Myrtle was a mother who deeply loved her family. She had six children from her marriage, whom she nurtured and cared for. She wanted nothing but the absolute best for all her children. They hardly wanted for anything. Myrtle was a mother who always put her family before herself; as long as her family was in good standing, so was she. Myrtle was all about tradition within her family. She cooked meals for her family almost every day of the week and in more recent years she enjoyed family gatherings. With a smile on her face, she would make a mean banana pudding, knowing it would be gone within minutes. Myrtle was better known as the neighborhood mom and babysitter. Her house was never quiet. Mostly when her children were out of school, her house was the house that very one would go to. She would feed, babysit, and do all the little girl's hair in a hot comb and curl style. Everyone loved Myrtle, she knew practically all her neighbors and enjoyed having a full house. She not only enjoyed caring for her family but others as well. Myrtle was a woman that loved and accepted everyone.

Myrtle leaves to cherish in her memories, her six children, James (Monica) Allen Jr., Sharon (Douglas) Smith, Audrey Allen, Tresa (Tyrone) Bonds, Dexter (Janala) Allen, Rosalyn Allen (Tyrone); God-daughter, Peggy Willis; 26 grandchildren; 34 greatgrandchildren; brother, Elijah Powell; sister, Myrtle Thomas; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, close friends, and sisters in Christ, whom she adored and appreciated.

Preceded in death by her father; George Powell; mother; Azzilee Powell; brothers, John Powell and June Powell and sister: Burt Powell.
