Naddie C. Pete was surrounded by her loved ones when she went to her heavenly home on March 11, 2019 at the age of 90. Her devotion to her family and firm belief in God supported her during her illness and ultimately gave her peace.
Mother Pete was born on September 27, 1928 in Mamou, Louisiana the daughter of Watkin and Mary Coward. She married Dudley Pete, Sr. on November 30, 1946. Mother Pete was baptized in 1953 at St. Peter’s Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas and later moved with her husband and family to Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1955. In 1975, Mother Pete relocated to Lansing, Michigan. At that time, she joined and became an active member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church.
She was very devoted and dedicated to her church and maintained her membership for 44 years until God called her home. She held several positions and offices within the church during that time. She was the Sunday School teacher for 38 years, teacher of the Women’s Missionary Society for 35 years, and the Usher Board president for 13 years until the late Pastor Bobby L. Bean asked her to join the Mother’s Board. She was active with the Mother’s Board for 19 years and until her illness.
Mother Pete was an educator at heart. She was kind and soft-spoken, and accepted every opportunity at various churches and speaking events to teach and testify before God. She was fully immersed in the Christian community and the Lord, who was her life-long support. She was blessed with a large and loving family and a second mother to many. She raised six children with patience, discipline, humility, and Jesus. From the very beginning, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to always seek Him and that he would direct their paths. She taught them to love the Lord, often taking family trips to Texas and went fishing every chance she had.
Mother Pete is survived by her sons, Dudley Pete, Jr. (Sandra), and Timothy Pete, Sr. (Teri) both of Lansing, Michigan; her daughters, Glenda Dent (Blonnie) of Beaumont, Texas, Delores Brown (late Larry Brown Jr.) of Katy, Texas, Theresa Lauderdale, and Neddie Pitre both of Lansing, Michigan; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and special friends.
