Mrs. Odell McKissic passed away Saturday, September 24, 2022. She was 90 years old. She was born August 28, 1932, in Blytheville, Arkansas, she is the daughter of Lonnie and Mattie Judge.
Odell McKissic resides in Springport, Michigan with her husband, Lonnie McKissic, Sr. She was a member of Mt. Zion All Nations Bible Church where she served as an usher. She was a beautiful wife, an awesome mother, the best grandmother, and a loving sister. Her hobbies included fishing, cooking, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Lonnie and Odell married on August 29, 1952, in Arkansas and shortly after moved to Lansing, Michigan. They immediately started attending Mt. Zion Church where they are still members of the church today. Odell was a server, and she had a long career serving others and the community. She was a cook at Michigan State University, Jackson Community College and she held several jobs as a nursing assistant.
Odell was a giver, and she always opened her home to others when they migrated from the south. Their first stop and place to stay was at Odell and Lonnie’s home. In the 80’s and 90’s she grew a garden and welcomed everyone from the church and others to come out to get fresh turnip greens and vegetables from her garden. In 2002, she took in one stray cat and now that number has grown to well over 20 on their property, this is just another example of her giving spirit.
