Olivia Gonzalez (Lansing)

Mrs. Olivia Gonzalez passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. Age 83 years. She was born July 13, 1937, in Laredo, Texas, to parents, Melcher Gaspar Baltizar and Concepcion Sotelo Chavez.

Olivia grew up in Texas, where she met and married her husband, Marcus Gonzalez. They traveled to several states until they landed in Michigan. Olivia and Marcus were blessed with 10 children as throughout their travels, and the family laid down roots here in Michigan.

She was a homemaker, wonderful mother, devoted wife, and beautiful grandmother. Olivia had a huge heart, many referred to her as a “gem”. Her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will miss her endlessly.


Olivia leaves to cherish her memory, adult children, Ray Gonzalez, James Gonzalez, Mary Gonzalez, Marty Gonzalez, Robert Gonzalez, Virginia Gonzalez, Josephine Brown, Martha Gonzalez, and Lee Gonzalez; 25 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by adoring husband, Marcus Gonzalez; daughters, Berta Kemmer and Isabell Parra Chavez; parents, Melcher Gaspar Baltizar and Concepcion Sotelo Chavez; brother, Arturo Chavez; and sisters, Gloria C. Soto and Carolina Torres.
