Mr. Ollie Lee Barry passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at Covenant Healthcare-Cooper. Age 90 years. He was born October 20, 1920 in Columbus, Mississippi to Elias A. and Annie L. Vernon Barry. He married Alfreda Anderson September 30, 1942.
Ollie brought his family to Saginaw in 1947 and began working at General Motors Grey Iron Plant. He retired in 1980 after 33 years of service on the job. His greatest loves, after his family, were hunting, fishing and gardening. Later in life he took up bowling and excelled at it. He was active in his community participating in Habitat for Humanity home builds, serving on the board of directors for the Houghton Jones Neighborhood Association and holding various offices in the First Ward Community Center Oldtimers Club.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters and two sons, Shirley Ward, Ollie C. (Lola) Barry, Ceciel J. (Norwaine) Reed, Tennison B. (DiSinthia) Barry, Theonas L. Barry; nine grandchildren, Satyra M. Griffin, Fela M. Barry, Erinn L. Reed, Dorian Griffin, Tennison B Jr. (Ginell) Barry, Alondre (Jennetta) Barry, Nashon (Margareta) Barry, Curtis Barry, Alfred Barry; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susie Butler, Eula Scott; one brother, Elias (Olean) Barry, sister-in-law, Josephine Brown; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, the Addisons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias (Annie) Barry; brothers, Walter B. Barry, Willie Barry, Ira T. Barry; sisters, Ada Barry and Celia Pope.
