Ora Calhoun (Lansing)

November 10, 1944 — April 4, 2021

Ms. Ora D. Calhoun transitioned to her eternal resting place on April 4, 2021. Age 76 years. She was born November 10, 1944, in Lilta, Alabama to parents, Mose and Daisy Manuel.

Ora graduated from Sexton Highschool and attended Lansing Community College, before starting at General Motors. She met and united with Virgil Calhoun, in holy matrimony, on August 25, 1965. Together they raised two daughters, Jackie Manuel and Wrenetha Calhoun.

She became a member of Rebirth Outreach Church, where she served on the Trustee and Mothers Boards. Ora enjoyed softball, bowling, and golf, when she was not playing them, she was watching them and her soaps. She was also on the Board of Capitol Track and Field. Ora was known for her keen business management skills and love of travel.

Ora leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Wrenetha Calhoun; grandchildren, Tanika Calhoun, D’Rico McClure, Tierra Manuel, T’Mondre Calhoun, and Jordan Clay; great-grandchildren, C’ynia Rutledge, Kadrion Mattihsen, Kyro Mattihsen, and Damira Fisher; sisters, Lucille Williams, Daisy Pate, Deloris James, and Mildred Nettles; brothers, Jasper Manuel, James Manuel, and Tom Manuel; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Eunice Demyers, Edna Swain, Juliet McIntosh, Serena Strudwick, Lucinda Sampson, and Lafayett Paschell; brothers-in-law, Clemson Calhoun, Henry Calhoun, Lawrence Gene Calhoun, and Larry Calhoun; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Gloria Mason and Kevin Delisle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Calhoun; daughter, Jacqulyn Manuel; mother, Daisy Lee Manuel; father, Mose Manuel; sisters, Ruthie Flowers, Ervin Hall, Lucille Williams, and Marry Sledge.

The family would like to express special thanks to her sister, Mildred Manuel, her best friend, Gloria Mason, Eric Rutledge, and Rebirth Outreach Church.
