Oscar B. Stallworth, Sr. (Lansing)

December 5, 1944 — April 22, 2021

Mr. Oscar Bernard Stallworth, Sr., a resident of Lansing, Michigan, since his early twenties, peacefully departed this life for his eternal home on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at a local hospital, age 76 years. He was born in Vredenburgh, Alabama, on December 5, 1944, to the late Henry Stallworth and Lillie Mae Stallworth. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Mobile, Alabama, where he grew to adulthood and was affectionately known as “Shooter.”

Oscar’s childhood education included religious teachings at the Trinity Lutheran Church and School in Mobile. The fundamental Christian beliefs that he learned helped to form his spiritual perspectives, which remained steadfast throughout his life. For his first two years of high school, he attended Alabama Lutheran Academy and College in Selma (renamed Concordia College). For the last two years, he attended Cedar Grove Academy in Prichard, Alabama, and he graduated in 1961, with the honor of being the salutatory speaker for his class. Oscar received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Tennessee State University in Nashville in 1966. He was a very proud Tennessee State University graduate and a dedicated HBCU supporter.

Oscar began his engineering career with the Goodyear Training Program in Akron, Ohio, in 1966. Later, he joined the Goodyear Metal Products/Motor Wheel Corporation in Lansing, as a mechanical engineer. Oscar advanced to the sales division of Motor Wheel, and, subsequently, he was selected as the original Equipment Account Executive of Motor Wheel for the Ford Motor Company account. He retired after 30 years of service. After retirement, he was employed by the Dean Transportation Company in Lansing.

As a volunteer, Oscar was heavily involved in the local Democratic Party; he worked diligently to support political campaigns for judges and other public officials in the Lansing area. He was a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. since college, and he was an enthusiastic participant with the Lansing chapter for many years. During retirement, he became an active member of the Westside YMCA, which he attended daily; he enjoyed and valued the friendly relationships developed among other members. He took great pleasure in reminiscing with his walking buddies and other friends about his life as a kid and teenager in Mobile.

Oscar was an avid golfer, and he relished his favorite sport. Also, he was a fan of seasonal spectator sports, and he wholeheartedly was loyal to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide football team. Rooting for his young sons on various intramural teams, especially, had been excitingly fun times with wonderful memories.

Oscar leaves a legacy of love and treasured memories with his three beloved children: Karen D. (Eldridge) Carter of Island Lake, Illinois, Oscar Bernard Stallworth, Jr., of Lansing, and Brett Thomas Stallworth of Lansing; five adored grandchildren: Shakera Hudson of Houston, Texas, Tajh Stallworth of Oakland, California, Ahkilah Stallworth of Lansing, Donovan Carter, and Garrison Carter of Island Lake, Illinois; one cherished friend, Cynthia Thorn of Lansing; four loving brothers: Wallace Blackmon, Sr., Roy (Patsy) Stallworth, Sr., of Mobile, Arthur (Geraldine) Stallworth of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Jerry (Cheryl) Stallworth of Conyers, Georgia; two loving sisters, Maxine (Alvin) Stallworth Crawford of Sylacauga, Alabama, and Jerrel Stallworth Grayson of Mobile; a dear maternal aunt, Dollie Hope of Birmingham, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elise T. Stallworth; parents, Henry Stallworth and Lillie Mae Stallworth; nine brothers: William, Thomas, Elbert, John D., Britt, Sherman, and Samuel Stallworth, Willie Blackmon, and Dan Blackmon; and five sisters: Molly, Hattie, and Edith Stallworth, Donella Crooks, and Louise Watson.

May GOD Bless Oscar’s Spirit to Rest in Peace—
Today and Forever.
