Ozie Bell Williams

October 6, 1918 — October 12, 2014

Like the wings of a dove our mothers life unfolded. Our dearly beloved Mother Ozie B. Williams, affectionately called Ocie, accepted two wings to fly away. Her soul took flight on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Saginaw Senior Care & Rehab Center.
Mother made her arrival on October 6, 1918 in Shorter, Alabama. She was born to Corine Williams-Maloy and John Burton. Accepting Christ at an early age, mother devoted her life to doing the work of the Lord. Later, she married Sim Williams Sr., moving from Alabama to Detroit, Michigan, finally residing in Saginaw, Michigan. Their family consisted of eight children whom they loved and raised up in the church.
Mother was a former member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior and Mass Choir as lead singer, soloist and choir directress. She later made her church home Messiah Missionary Baptist Church where she continued to sing with the choir, sharing the gospel through songs of Zion. Mother also sang in various choirs throughout the Tri-City area along with legends such as the late Rev. James Cleveland and the late Rev. Charles Nicks. She was a soloist for the Harvest Festival where her angelic voice would ring throughout, ministering to all that were present.
In addition to singing, which we all know she loved to do, mother enjoyed her family, cooking from scratch, cleaning, sewing, pressing hair and shopping. She was well-known at Jacobsons and Gantos where she shopped for the latest fashions. Most of all, she enjoyed serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Mother leaves to cherish her memory, one son Herbert C. Williams, one daughter, Joanie K. Williams; many grandchildren, including a special grandson, Corey T. Williams; one sister, Thelma P. Freeman; two daughters-in-law, Ann Turpin-Williams and Pamela Brown-Maloy, two sons-in-law, Alonzo (Diane) Wrenn III and Fredrick Holmes all of Saginaw, Michigan; five godchildren, Fayleta (Fay) Williams, Dontaye Canty, Marcus A. Cork, Crystal and Katrina Beasley; dear lifelong loved ones, her Pastor, Otis (Bonn) Washington of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church of Bridgeport Township; her pianist, Ruby White, her beautician, Dorothy (Willie) Harris, Alphonso Gibbs of Riverside, California, Gwendolyn Suluki of Flint, Michigan, James (Tanya) Vaughn, Lee (Betty) Williams, all of Saginaw, Michigan; Nella (James) Jackson, and the Honorable Judge Marilyn Atkins all of Southfield, Michigan; Penny Maxwell, Julie McNair, MaryAnn Thon and the staff at Saginaw Senior Care & Rehab Center; many other relatives and friends including numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Swilley-Arnold; mother, Corine Maloy-Gant, father, John Burton, stepfather Ray Maloy; one sister, Mary Wright; two brothers, Eddie Phillips and Samuel Williams; two great-grandchildren Quintavia Williams and James DMarco Swilley-Poole; one nephew Richard Wright Jr; one daughter-in-law, Wilma Hunter-Williams; two sons-in-law James Swilley and James Calvin Arnold.
