Pastor Emeritus Alvino Trevino (Lansing)

September 9, 1941 — December 15, 2022

Pastor Emeritus Alvino Jimenez Trevino was born on September 9, 1941 to Faustina Jimenez and Luis Trevino in Robstown, Texas. He made his transition from Labor to Reward in his peaceful sleep on Thursday, December 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

In the early 60s, as a young teen, he met the love of his life Rafaela Gonzales. Living in different cities, they would write letters to one another expressing their love and care for each other. Shortly after, they met at the corner of Eastern High School and Pattengill Middle School, where they ran away together, eventually getting married, and then having their 4 children, Eva, Mary, Sarah, and Victor.

Pastor Emeritus Trevino was a resident of Lansing, MI for over 40 years. Prior he had lived in Orangeville and Plainwell, MI and in Huntington, Indiana. He became an ordained minister over 50 years ago and has pastored numerous churches. He was also an evangelist where he gained the nickname “Chispa” (meaning “spark”). The reason they called him “Chispa” was because of his gift to ignite the Holy Ghost with his fiery, passionate spirit for God. He then retired from pastoring and passed the mantle to his only son, Suffragan Bishop, Victor A. Trevino.

Apart from Pastoring, he was a very hard worker from the young age of seven where he worked in the fields with his grandmother, with various jobs in between, until his retirement from Service Master after working many years. Even after retirement, he stayed busy and ran his own carpet cleaning business. He was a great provider and instilled hard work ethics into his family leaving an example for them all to follow now and forever.

During his spare time, he enjoyed watching westerns, fishing, collecting cars, and camping with his family.

His family will always cherish his wittiness, humor, and extreme love that he shared with his “honey bunny” and for all those he encountered.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Rafaela Trevino of 61 years; daughters, Eva (Jose) Tross, Mary Galindez, and son, Victor (Elizabeth) Trevino, daughter/granddaughter Tina (Homer) Castaneda; Grandchildren, Valerie Reid, Jeremy Reid, Hector Galindez, Luis Galindez, Gustavo Galindez, Jasmine (Reco) Stinson, Salena Applewhite, Victoria (Chris) Strode, Hezekiah (Annastasha) Trevino, Victor (Jessica) Trevino Jr.; 20 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Alvino is preceded in death by both parents, two sisters, and his cherished daughter, Sarah Trevino.

The family would like to express special thanks to McLaren Hospice, The Bread House South, Riverview Church, 365 and all the family and friends that offered support and condolences during this time.
