Pastor Howard Davenport, Sr. departed this life to be received of the Lord on Monday, March 14th, 2022, at the age of 83 years. He was born June 13, 1938, to Henry Lee, Sr. and Amanda Davenport in Clarkedale, Arkansas.
Pastor Howard Davenport, Sr. married Leora PolLe Norris and moved their family to Lansing, Michigan in 1969. He worked diligently in the auto industry for General Motors Corporation at Fisher Body and B.O.C. Assembly plants to provide for his family, while growing and prospering as an evangelist at Maple Street Church of God.
In 1980, Pastor Howard Davenport, Sr. faithfully and courageously embarked on laying a foundation for what would become the Lansing Christian Center Church and has been a source of blessing in ministry of God’s Word spanning more than 4 decades.
Pastor Howard Davenport, Sr. enjoyed sports (basketball, in particular) and classic TV shows like “The Andy Griffith Show” and old westerns, as well as strumming his guitar like his influencer, James Savage.
Pastor Howard Davenport, Sr. leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Leora; sons, Clifton, Howard, Jr. (Suzi), Kenneth (Betty), and Mark; daughters, Vivian Ann, Gwendolyn, Priscilla, Tamia, and Tamya; brothers, Calvin and Henry, Jr. (Katie); sister, Emma Jean (George) Mack; grandchildren, T’Azsa, Amari, Michael, Isaiah, Benjamin, and Kayla; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends who have been blessed by his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee, Sr. and Amanda Davenport; brothers, Robert (in infancy) and Claude; sisters, Carrie Lee (Joliet) Nelson, Eula Mae (James) Ciggs, and Shirley (Billy) Johnson.
