Pastor Rex A. Jones departed this world in the early morning on Monday, March 30, 2020, depriving it of a beautiful soul. He was born on July 20, 1951 to Willie L. and Ora Bell Jones, the youngest of four children.
Rex lived his entire life in Saginaw, Michigan (Carrollton Township). He was an exceptional athlete through his junior high and high school years. The highlight of that career was being an integral part of the 1970 Class B State Runner-up basketball team.
Rex gave his life to the Lord at 9th Street Mennonite Church which is now 9th Street Community Church; he would later become assistant Pastor and then Head Pastor. Rex loved the Lord, his family and his church family. He was employed at Dow Chemical for 33 years. He never met a stranger and always had a kind word for everyone. He loved helping young people. He loved teaching his youth Sunday School classes and recreation coaching.
Rex had a passion for sport cars. His evening drives in his “little red corvette” gave him pleasure. He married his high school sweetheart, Kristie, and they shared 47 and ½ wonderful years together.
In addition to his wife Kristie, Rex leaves to cherish him, his children, William Kangas (Michelle), Nicole (Ron) Jones-Milburn, Andrea (Jered) Jones-Tanner, Jamaar Jones; grandchildren, Jordan Goodrow-Jones, Nolan and Kylee Kangas, Dallas Jones, Scottlinn, Rex, and Koa Tanner; a great-grand daughter due in April; his mother, Ora Bell Jones; brothers, Willie L. Jr. and Bruce Jones; sisters-in-law, Ann (Ray) Jones, Cindy Jones, Brenda (Richard) Dawkins, Lois (Norris) Kelly; brother-in-law, Bryan Scott; uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces too many to name; his beloved church family; the members of that championship basketball team that included seniors George Kubiak, Jim Nichols, Charles Shells, Lee Wagner and John Schultz.
Rex was predeceased by his beloved son, Rex A. Jones II; father, Willie L. Jones, Sr.; sister, Delores Champion; grandparents, William and Mary Lillie; mother and father-in-law, Lorman and Bernice Scott; brother-in-law, Lorman B. Scott.
God gained a beautiful soul and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and Pastor on March 30th. We his family and friends will miss him always. The family would like to thank Covenant VNA Hospice nurses and aides, especially Breanna, Neema, Lisa and Mariah for the care given to Rex. Also thank you to Tesha and Blanche at Tri-city Urology, Ivan E. Phillips and the Staff of Paradise Funeral Chapel. God Bless You.
