Pastor Seth R. Doyle, Jr.

May 16, 1937 — February 1, 2019

Pastor Seth Randolph Doyle, Jr. was a life long resident of Michigan. Born in Detroit, he was raised in Clinton Township in the community known as Quinn Road. He attended Mount Clemens High School and, in 1954, enlisted in the United States Army. He served honorably, including a tour in South Korea, and was discharged in 1957.

From his childhood, Pastor Doyle loved to work on cars and anything mechanical and electrical. After attending the Cleveland Institute of Electronics he joined the Burroughs Corporation (Unisys) and, later, General Motors and the Ford Motor Company, as a design engineer.

Pastor Doyle yielded to the call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ on December 31, 1979. He was licensed to preach in 1980 at the Greater New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit. He was ordained into the gospel ministry in 1986 at the First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan.

On Mothers’ Day in 1986, Pastor Doyle accepted the call to lead the congregation of the Second Baptist Church in Bay City, Michigan. He served there faithfully for 32 years, always reminding the members of his deep love for them.

Pastor Doyle was a preacher and a teacher. Over the years he was privileged to serve as an instructor for the Baptist Missionary and Educational Congress of Christian Education, the Wolverine State Congress of Christian Education, the Saginaw Valley Baptist District Congress of Christian Education, and the Avery and Mildred Aldridge Pastors and Wives Seminar.

Always in pursuit of a higher education, Pastor Doyle earned degrees from Wayne County Community, Wayne State University, and William Tyndale Bible College. He also received certificates and honors from Encounter Ministries, Urban Alternatives Ministries, Urban Ministries, and the Nabrit-Garnett Lecture Series. He was awarded an honorary doctor of divinity by the Dallas-East School of Religion of the Dallas Baptist Christian College of Dallas, Texas.

As a concerned citizen, Pastor Doyle contributed to the community as a camp counselor, a panelist on the “Ask the Pastor” television ministry, a lead counselor at CORY Place, and a board member of Bay Medical Health Systems.

Pastor Doyle loved to sing and to travel. He sang with the Mighty Voices of Thunder Male Chorus for 16 years and often led the Second Baptist congregation in one of his favorite hymns. He was blessed to travel with his wife nationally and internationally. Together, they ventured to the Bahamas, Alaska, and 35 of the lower states, from the east coast to the west coast. His most rewarding experience was the joy of taking a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and conducting a baptismal service in the Jordan River.

Pastor Doyle was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who was devoted to preaching God’s word and inspiring God’s people.
