On January 25, 2022, while surrounded by her children, the Lord reached down and lifted the soul of his faithful servant Pearl Lee Berry-Evans from her earthly vessel into His divine presence. She was the seventh child born of nine to the union of Lonnie Sr. and Ernestine Berry on October 19, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee.
The family moved to Bay City, Michigan in 1956. Pearl had a genuine smile that could melt the coldest heart but was also known to be a straight shooter who could give you a no nonsense look that stopped you dead in your tracks. Pearl enjoyed fellowshipping with her family, traveling and reading. She is extremely missed by those who knew and loved her.
Pearl received her primary education in the Bay City Public School District, post-secondary education trained as a Legal Assistant and in Computer Science at Jackson Community College, and attained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Behavioral Science and Business Administration from Spring Arbor University. Over the years she worked at various organizations.
Pearl accepted Christ at an early age. She was a devoted member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City, Michigan where she served on the Missionary Society, Assistant Director of the Youth Choir, and a member of the Adult Choir. She loved helping when and where needed.
Pearl leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Shon (Jean) Berry, Shae Berry (Leticia Mata) of Bay City, Michigan., Sombraye Evans of Holland, Michigan; one daughter Shanea Evans (William McCaskey) of Redford Twp., Michigan; ten grandchildren Cairra Berry, Kayden Woods, DeShanda, DeSandra, DeShayla and A’maria Berry, Braymond Evans, Jay Evans, Jalaya and Janiya McCaskey; five great-grandchildren Martez Berry, Dereon Miracle, Xzayvion Vanderpool, Layonii Richardson and Malaysia Berry; three sisters Alzelene King, Belinda Kelly of Bay City, Michigan., and Anita Carey of Las Vegas, Nevada; three brothers James and Lee Berry of Bay City, Michigan and Connell (Michelle) Berry of Saginaw, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends: Denise Gipson-Tyiska, Lynda Simpson, Trudy Archey, and Ronald McZee Sr.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eva M. Berry; brother, Lonnie Berry Jr.; niece, Veronica Berry; nephew, Anthony Berry; great-grandson. Lemere Richardson, and goddaughter, Kimberly Starks.
