Pearlie Gaskew-Nathan

February 23, 1949 — February 19, 2021

Mrs. Pearlie Mae Gaskew-Nathan was born February 23, 1949 in Frenchman Bayou, Arkansas to David and Rosie Brown. She transitioned Friday, February 19, 2021 at Covenant Cooper Hospital in Saginaw Michigan at age 71.

Pearlie Mae journeyed north in her youth and eventually landed in Saginaw, Michigan. She worked for Meijer for 15 years before retiring. She confessed her hope in Christ at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Govan in Frenchman Bayou, Arkansas. Later in life she joined Greater Freewill Missionary Baptist Church (Saginaw, Michigan) under the leadership of her brother-in-law, the late Dr. James L. Dorsey, Sr., where she served in the choir for many years.

Pearlie was loved and called “Baby Sister” amongst family. She was the seventh child of sixteen born to David and Rosie. Even though she was born into a big family, she was the one that didn’t take any mess and let you know how she felt, whether you liked it or not. She was loving and cared for any and everybody. Her heart was pure and genuine. Her favorite thing to do was cook and talking trash (and she was really good at both). She birthed three children, but there were many other children she helped raise without any COMPLAINTS. Once you met her, you would NEVER forget her.

Pearlie Mae was preceded in death by her grandson, KaMarris Russell; parents, David and Rosie Brown; one sister, Ella Mae (Pastor James Sr.) Dorsey; brothers, David Jr., Robert Lee, James L., John, Tommy Lee and R.B. Brown.

She leaves precious memories with her husband, JC Nathan; three children, Rosie Gaskew-Robinson, Kareem (Katina) Gaskew ,St. Louis, Missouri, Frank (Latrice) Gaskew, Grand Rapids, Michigan; three step-children, Jarrard, Juprina and Juwanna Nathan; grandchildren, Keith, Shyteria, Kareem Jr., Jalissa Gaskew, Jovon Robinson, Patience Gaskew, Jazmyn Purley, Lamont, Lasarahana, Jedell Gaskew, DeAndre Purley; siblings, Annie Echols, Betty (Enis) Wakefield, Rubie Zucowski, Linnie (Tommy) Lutton, Ann (Lorenzo) Browne, Nathaniel (Verna) Brown, Regina Lindsay; godchildren, Shantelle, Leisha, and Anthony Hood; special friend, Carol Hood; many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones and friends.
