Phillip Lewis passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at his residence in Lansing, Michigan. Age 95 years old. He was born Saturday, August 4, 1928, to Jimmy and Olive Lewis in Beaumont, Texas.
As a young child his family moved to Youngsville, Louisiana. Phillip has always been a hard-working man, he began his career as a farm worker in Louisiana, moved on to the Swift Meat Packing plant, later he worked for Mayflower Moving Company and finally retired from Christman Company as a Cement Mason in Lansing Michigan.
Phillip was a devout Catholic and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Lansing. He was a long-standing member of the ELKS Lodge I.B.O.P.O.E of W #534. He was very active and filled his time fishing, hunting, cooking, going to the casino and spending time with his family.
Phillip left to cherish his memory his daughters, Valdeen Lewis and Philicia Lewis; sons, Marcus (Cassandra) Lewis and Jimmy (Rochelle) Lewis; 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren; brother, Allen Lewis; sisters, Genevieve Johnson and Jeannette Broussard; many nieces, nephews, close relatives, and lifelong friends.
He is proceeded in death by his wife of 38 years, Alma Lewis; daughter, Pamela Lewis-Hill; sons, Melvin Lewis, David Lewis, and Dennis Lewis; grandson, Jimmy Lewis Jr; great-granddaughter, Valencia Motley; parents; brother, Jim “Paul” Lewis; sisters, Marguerite Joseph, Charlene Simon, and Elaine Brasher, and companion of over 25 years, Dorothy Nichols.
