Quincy Darrell Jones
A time to be born…Our yellow boy came into this world on a hot 88-degree day, August 2, 2001, demanding the attention of everyone around him. A case of jaundice would leave us in the hospital under a light for a couple extra days to give time to clear. The doctors may have had it all wrong because after all these years Quincy was still yellow! His nurturing mom Latrice (Acy) Thomas and his devoted dad Eric Jones Sr. will forever cherish the memories of Quincy’s birth.
A time to build…From a young age, Quincy was known for his big smile and a bigger attitude that could change in a matter of minutes. Despite his calm exterior, his school-age years were challenging but he rose to the challenge and this journey was met with unwavering support from a dedicated village of mentors and those who loved him.
Lady Omie Smith and Shavonne Thomas opened their classrooms to Quincy, offering him solace and encouragement when the school days were tough. The late Vonda Pryor-Massey also played a crucial role, as she would go sit in class with Quincy just so he would know she was there praying and watching. Raised and christened at Victorious Believers Ministries under the leadership of the late Bishop Marvin C. Pryor, Quincy built relationships, found guidance, and mentorship through his church family, Sunday School teachers and T2 youth leaders. His involvement with the Hire Program and the First Ward Community Center offered him opportunities to work, explore, and grow, leaving an indelible mark on his life. As a result of his maturity and fight to be better, Quincy graduated from Saginaw High School, class of 2020.
A time to love…Quincy’s life was a testament of his dedication to others. He loved to have fun and enjoy life. He lived to ensure that everyone around him was okay. We all can hear him saying “I got you!” as he was ripping and running. His big smile and laugh will be remembered forever. His legacy is one of warmth, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to everyone he cared about.
Quincy loved all his siblings dearly and would do anything for them. He leaves behind his sweet sisters Niyericka, Damya and Deasia Jones and A’Cyah Thomas, his band of brothers Eric Jr., Jajuan, and Jaylen Jones, Ja’Von and George Thomas. He is also survived by his loving grandparents Gwendolyn Dozier, Michael Champion, and his great-grandmother Mary Champion, and sweet niece Kai’Lani Jones. A host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, including the Champion and Jones families, loved him beyond words. Cedric Highshaw and Jonathan Buchanan “his riders” Q enjoyed spending time with you all. He’s also remembered by his sibling’s mother Yvette Ezell who treated him like her own. Quincy was well known and had many friends that will miss him. There’s one he could always count on, for many years Ke’Andre McKnight showed Quincy what a best friend was all about.
A time to embrace…Quincy was preceded in death by his precious grandmother whom he held close to his heart Vercie Jones, grandfather John Jones and great-great grandmother Jennie Lee.
A time for peace…July 28, 2024, will never be the same. Though he may no longer walk among us, Quincy’s spirit will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who had the privilege of sharing his journey. Quincy will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Just know God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalms 147:3
