Raymond Salahuddin

April 5, 1945 — January 18, 2021

At the age of 75, Raymond Salahuddin passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2021, at Symphony Tri-Cities, an assisted living facility in Bay City, Michigan. Raymond was born on April 5, 1945, in Clayton, Mississippi, the third child of Bennie Sr. and Ester Hunt. As a young child, Raymond’s mother always told him to take care of his little sister, Earlean, a responsibility he took seriously even after becoming an adult.

Raymond was an independent youth, leaving Mississippi at 15 years old to find his way. Because Raymond was known for his larger than life personality, love of wearing suits, engaging in friendly competitive games of billiards, and playing cards, he gleaned the nickname Broadway.

After leaving Mississippi, Raymond lived in Flint, Michigan for many years and worked at Buick before following his entrepreneurial spirit. For over thirty years, he lived in the Saginaw and Bay City communities. He was a devoted Muslim and a member of the Islamic Center of Saginaw, Michigan.

Raymond is survived by his beloved daughter, Jamil (Ronald) Nichols; granddaughter, Jordanne Nichols; stepson, LaMont Fields; step-grandson, LaMont Fields II. Additionally, Raymond is survived by his brother, Bennie Hunt Jr; sister, Earlean McKay; aunt, Maggie Kuykendall; nieces, Shirlene Clark, Gwendolyn Barton; nephews, Billie Williams, Willie McKay Jr., and Timothy McKay; a host of nephews and nieces, the Islamic Center of Saginaw congregation, and special friends, John Smith, Ina Bynum, and Dr. and Sister Islam.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leroy Hunt; and niece, Francine Williams.
