Reverend Reginald F. Cameron Jr., a beloved and devoted servant of God was born on July 13, 1988, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Reginald F. Cameron Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio, and Shannon Anderson of Saginaw, Michigan. Our dear brother, uncle, nephew, godfather, cousin, and friend departed this life to be with the Lord on February 2, 2024, at the age of 35 years.
Reginald was a member of the Arthur Hill High School Class of 2007. He was a student in the YMCA Michigan Youth in Government program and later became one of the mentors until the time of his death. He loved to serve and educate his community. After his own bout with the illness, Reggie spearheaded and participated in various breast cancer awareness activities.
Reginald began his relationship with the Lord while attending Word of Faith International Ministries with his grandmother, Evangelist Scottie Wolfe. Rev. Cameron became a licensed minister while attending Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Marvin T. Smith. While there he was also a member of the Outreach, Transportation, and Christian Education ministries. He was later ordained as a Preacher of the Gospel at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Johnnie Edwards Sr. where he was Superintendent of Sunday School, served on various ministries, and preached regularly. Rev. Cameron recently served as President of the Saginaw Valley Baptist District Local Ministers. He ministered throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region including volunteering with the Jacob’s Ladder Prison Ministry Team at the Saginaw Correctional Facility. His most recent ministerial assignment was interim Pastor at Essexville Community Church in Bay City, Michigan. Reginald was honored to serve God’s people. At the time of his death, Reverend Cameron was an Associate Minister at New Life Baptist Ministries under the direction of Pastor Dr. Craig A. Tatum where he taught Sunday School and participated in other ministries.
Prior to his illness, Reginald was employed by Nexteer Automotive. He later worked for Saginaw Public Schools as a Paraprofessional at Saginaw High School. Reggie’s passion for youth was evident. The students loved “Mr. Reggie.” Even after moving on to his most recent position as a Pastoral Care Chaplain at Covenant HealthCare, Reggie would go back and volunteer as needed just to be with the students at Saginaw High.
He enjoyed traveling, cooking, and trying different foods and recipes. He loved to shop and always made sure that he was well-groomed and dressed to impress. He was known for his colorful socks.
Reginald leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Shadonna L. and Tatiana N. Holden; two nieces Sanaa S. and Skyye L. Holden; one nephew, Kaden J. Holden; all of Saginaw; a special spiritual father, Bishop Dempsey Allen of Saginaw, who Reggie affectionately called “Dad” and he would affectionately respond, calling Reg “Young Fella;” seven aunts, Brenda Cameron, Jacqueline (Clifford) Carter, Janice (Pete) Cannon, Deloise Wolfe, Sheri Sweeney, Ella Johnson, all of Saginaw, and Emma Anderson of Junction City, Kansas; nine uncles, David (Rebecca) Williams, Ian Anderson, Ivan Wolfe, Grant Sweeney, Henry Sweeney Jr., Edlenton Cameron Jr., all of Saginaw, Alphounce (Shannon) Wolfe of Phoenix, Arizona, Perry (Mardwena) Cameron and Elton (Stephanie) Cameron, both of Cleveland, Ohio; grandmother, Sleadia Sweeney, Saginaw Michigan; godchildren, John William and Pryce Aron; godmothers, Phyllis Lowe and Sheila Meredith and families; special friends from childhood, Victor Draine (and family) and Rashawndra Jackson (RJ). Reggie also leaves a host of cousins, classmates, and special friends that he held dear to his heart.
Reggie was predeceased by his grandmother, Evangelist Scottie Wolfe and Mr. Peter Wolfe; his grandfather, Rev. Henry Sweeney Sr.; his mother, Shannon Anderson; and his father, Reginald Cameron Sr.
The family would like to thank the Covenant Cooper 7th Floor ICU Staff for going above and beyond during Reggie’s time of illness. We cannot express enough our appreciation for the tremendous outpouring of support from family, friends, the AHHS Class of 2007, Essexville Community Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minister Chris Tatum, Pastor Dr. Craig A. Tatum, and the New Life Baptist Ministries Church Family, and so many others in the Great Lakes Bay Region too numerous to list. May God bless each of you and sustain a lasting peace within your souls.
