Richard Coleman

April 16, 1953 — March 24, 2013

Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Richard Gene Coleman passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Age 59 years. He was one of seven children born on April 16, 1953 in Saginaw, Michigan to James and Edna Coleman.
Richard was a graduate of Saginaw High School class of 1971. He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on November 5, 1976. On June 30, 1973 he married Phyllis Washington. She survives him. Richard retired from General Motors Malleable Iron Plant on December 1, 1994 after 26 years of faithful service and was also a member of UAW Local 455. He recently rededicated his life to Christ. Richard enjoyed listening to music, watching television and spending precious time with his family. Gone but not forgotten, his presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 40 years, Phyllis Coleman; three daughters, Jacquetta L. (Earl) Sledge, Melva L. Coleman, Tracy L. Coleman; one son, Daryl L. Coleman; nine loving grandchildren whom he adored, Charde, Elandra, Isiah, Anthony, McKenzie, Jacob, Deonta, Nick, Devin and Cain; one great-grandson, Cameron; his brothers and sisters, Steve (Karen) Coleman, Howard Coleman, Sheila Rogan, Kathryn (Jerry) Banks, Barbara (Jefferey) Townsend and Marcia Coleman; several nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Benny (Betty) Batts, Emma Jackson, Terry Williams and Wanda Williams.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna Coleman, one son, Richard Gene Coleman Jr., one brother-in-law, Larry Rogan.
The family would like to express special thanks to the Veteran Affairs of Saginaw and Ann Arbor, St. Marys Ambulatory Center, Covenant Healthcare, A & D Healthcare, University of Michigan Health System and the Visiting Physicians Association.
