Richard Simmons, Ii (Lansing)

Mr. Richard Edward Simmons, II passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Lansing, Michigan. Age 42 years. He was born on October 1, 1979, the son of Patricia and Richard Simmons in Lansing, Michigan.

Richard resided in Lansing, Michigan and was born at Edward W. Sparrow Hospital. He visited Kingdom Life Church, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, and gave his life to God on June 26th at Amazing Grace Temple. Richard earned his GED in 2009 with several certificates to follow. He was employed by Artic Glacier, Amazon, and he loved it when he was employed driving a truck. His last employment was working at Hertz Car Rental at the local airport. Richard also loved walking by the water and traveling. He was a dedicated family man who loved his family and they loved him. Richard loved his wife’s cooking and his stepmom’s dressing. He was funny, loving, caring, and his eyes used to tell a million words.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shameka Simmons and daughter Myahna  Simmons, whom he loved the most and they both held a special place in his heart; 3 stepchildren; 8 grandchildren that loved him dearly; mother, Patricia Simmons; sisters, Meneriva (Freddie) Smith and Jewllyn Simmons of Detroit, Michigan; brother, Richard (Shirley Harrison) Owens of Atlanta, Georgia; 6 nieces, Damara Johnson, De’Asia Johnson, Jiya Simmons of Detroit, Michigan, Dior Owens of Atlanta, Georgia, and special nieces, Antonia and A’Lyssa Taylor, of Lansing, Michigan; 7 nephews, Da’Cori Simmons, Daryl Johnson, III, Jahlon Simmons and James Griffin both of Detroit, Michigan, Jacquon, Bryce, and Djeimon Owens all of Atlanta, Georgia; great niece and great nephews, Dezire, Kingdom, Da’Khian and Dior Johnson; 2 aunts, Fannie Jones and Odess Jones; 6 uncles, Ervin Jones, Elton Jones, Anthony Jones, Otis Jones, Gilbert (Hilda) Jones and Thomas (Stacy) Simmons of Detroit, Michigan; mother-in-law, Beverly Hicks; 3 sisters-in-law; 1 brother-in-law; many cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Fred McCan, Hassi Marwan Handsome, Daryl Johnson, II,     Darnell Gardner, Deon Gardner, and Willie Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Simmons, Sr.; brother, Justin Simmons; nephews, Devon Johnson and Antonio Taylor; 4 grandparents; 7 uncles; and 1 brother-in-law.
